So what do people think of this one?  Playable?  Enjoyable?  All the virtues of 3.5 and 4e together, or all the vices?
Game MASter that is comPLETEly unfair!

The idea of the icon system seems interesting but I personally feel that the PCs having connections to important NPCs should be exception rather than rule. I like the idea of broadening the skills into backgrounds to make them more applicable to different situations, though I wonder if this could lead to a disconnect between the actions being taken and your characters skills (i.e. would it become more "how can i apply my background to this situation" rather than "my character is good at doing X"), which could lead to characters feeling samey. The fact that HP isn't rolled is also nice as it prevents you from being screwed by a run of bad HP rolls, but the range of HP and HP progression seems odd to me, I'd have to see it in action to say for sure but it seems the classes have similar amounts of HP compared to if they were on the dice system. All in all it seems like a good enough system from the brief look i took at it, some of the changes are interesting ideas but i think i would need to see them in action to say whether they would work out well or not.
