Wargamers Cooking Challenge (POSTPONED)
« on: February 11, 2012, 08:03:39 pm »
Postponed until the end of the year.
Quote
Here are the rules:

1.) We will gather at the commons room, where you will be provided with a secret ingredient. It will be one of the following three: quinoa, carrots, or yoghurt. I will roll a d3 to determine which one.

2.) You must prepare one entree and one dessert. You have a set amount of time (2-3 hours) to purchase your ingredients and cook your meal. You may use your own kitchen; if you live too far from campus, let me know and I'll arrange for you to borrow a kitchen near campus.

3.) You must get your meal back to the commons room within the time limit. Once all the participants have arrived, judging will begin.

And a few notes for participants:

The challenge is team based; individual participants can choose their partner or I will assign them one.

You are free to use whatever ingredients you wish, but you MUST use the secret ingredient we give you.

Make sure to make enough food for the 3 judges. You're also free to make extra.

It's been suggested that we have a potluck dinner afterwards. So if people want to bring extra food, then it won't be just the judges that get to eat :)

The scoring breakdown will be given to you on the day of the competition.

D3 is still used in game rules to indicate the probability, rolling it simply requires more advanced technology or the use of math.

So this entire challenge is designed so Iris can use her otherwise useless die collection which constantly let me accuse her of cheating because they're odd looking and the numbers are very difficult to read without closer inspection. :P

they maybe indicated for use.  In practicality,  d3s simply because of the whole "rolling" mechanic doesn't exactly roll.  Thats why you just roll a d6 or a multiple of 3, and designate a range.  1-2 = 1 etc.

Thats actually what I meant. Sorry for any confusion and derailing this event with an excess dialogue on dice.

As for the event, feel free to sign up here or in the club room; I'll post a signup on the door tommorow morning.

Cooking challenge won't be happening this week after all due to one of the judges and a few of the participants being unavailable at the last minute. It probably will be rescheduled to April :)

Because 3 participants were suddenly unavailable too :( Doug was right; Reading Week was a terrible time for this.

Not cancelled forever <.< Even if I have to keep bringing this up for the next three years, I will make sure that this happens eventually. But finding a time that's suitable for everyone is proving difficult. I'm shooting for the last week of exam period right now, maybe Thursday the 26th.
